Westbridge Athletic FC produced a dominant performance on home soil, securing a 3–1 win against Riverside Borough in front of a fantastic crowd at Westbridge Stadium.
Strong start at Westbridge Stadium
Westbridge Athletic FC continued their positive pre-season preparations with an impressive 3–1 victory over Riverside Borough at Westbridge Stadium.
The home side started the match with confidence, pressing high and moving the ball quickly through midfield. Westbridge created several early opportunities before J. Wilson opened the scoring in the 12th minute, finishing a well-worked attacking move to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Westbridge remained in control as the first half progressed. The team continued to create space down both sides of the pitch, while the midfield worked effectively to regain possession and keep Riverside under pressure.
Their advantage was doubled in the 38th minute when M. Thompson found the net after another strong spell of attacking football. The goal gave Westbridge a 2–0 lead heading into the break and reflected the home side’s dominance during the opening 45 minutes.
Riverside respond after the break
Riverside Borough returned for the second half with greater intensity and reduced the deficit in the 55th minute through A. Morris.
The goal briefly changed the momentum of the match, but Westbridge responded well. Rather than dropping deeper, the team regained control of possession and continued to play with the same confidence shown during the first half.
The defensive unit remained organised as Riverside attempted to push forward, while Westbridge continued to look dangerous on the counter-attack.
Baker seals the victory
The decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute.
L. Baker completed another fast Westbridge attack to restore the two-goal advantage and make the score 3–1. From that point, the hosts managed the closing stages comfortably and limited Riverside to few clear opportunities.
Westbridge continued to move the ball intelligently and used the final part of the match to introduce fresh players and maintain the tempo.
The final whistle confirmed a deserved 3–1 victory and another useful performance as preparations for the new season continue.
Positive signs ahead of the season
The result was encouraging, but the performance itself provided the most important positives.
Westbridge showed good organisation without the ball, confidence in possession and an ability to create chances from different areas of the pitch. The squad also responded well after conceding, quickly regaining control rather than allowing Riverside to build momentum.
With further training sessions and fixtures still to come, the match provided another opportunity for the players to build fitness, develop partnerships and continue adapting to the team’s playing style.
